Indigenous Word

The letter of the week is I for Indigenous. Comment an Indigenous word and its meaning.

The State of Alaska has 20 official (Alaska Native) languages, in addition to English. One of the top five home languages spoken by ASD students is Yup’ik, an Alaska Native language. Yup’ik is also the second most spoken Indigenous language in the United States, after Navajo. However, there are still more than 100 Alaska Native languages spoken when all the variations and dialects are included.

Comment your word below. Please keep comments school friendly. -Team ASD
