Senator Dan Sullivan, a Republican representing Alaska in the U.S. Senate, posted a series of updates on November 10, 2025, addressing both recent government developments and personal reflections tied to the United States Marine Corps.

In a tweet posted early that morning, Sullivan commented on the end of the recent government shutdown, writing: "We finally had a breakthrough tonight to reopen the government after 40 days of a senseless Schumer shutdown. Hope we can keep the momentum tomorrow." (November 10, 2025). The senator's use of "Schumer shutdown" refers to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, attributing responsibility for the closure to Democratic leadership.

Later that day, Sullivan shared his personal connection to military service and noted his absence from an annual event in Anchorage: "Aside from husband and father, the title I’m most proud of having earned is United States Marine. One of Julie’s and my favorite events of the year is the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball in Anchorage. I wish I could’ve been there in person on this important 250th anniversary," (November 10, 2025).

In a follow-up post, Sullivan explained why he remained in Washington rather than attending celebrations at home: "Because we have been focused on getting the government reopened after the senseless and fully avoidable shutdown, I was stuck in DC this past weekend instead of being where I longed to be: back home in Alaska celebrating the 250th anniversary of the @USMC with my fellow Alaska" (November 10, 2025).

Senator Sullivan is a former officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and has served as Alaska's junior senator since 2015. The referenced government shutdown lasted for forty days before lawmakers reached an agreement to resume federal operations. The annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball commemorates the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps on November 10, marking its 250th anniversary in 2025.
