Senator Lisa Murkowski, representing Alaska in the U.S. Senate, recently addressed a range of national issues on her official Twitter account.
On November 7, 2025, Murkowski stated that she voted to advance debate on a resolution aimed at halting the escalation of various operations against Venezuela without direct Congressional approval. She wrote, "Tonight, I voted to proceed to debate on a resolution that would terminate the escalation of operations—covert, military, economic, or otherwise—against Venezuela without explicit approval from Congress. I have been briefed multiple times and reviewed classified documents that".
Later that day, Murkowski commented on recent developments regarding federal nutrition assistance during a government shutdown. On November 7, 2025, she posted: "Relieved to hear that USDA is complying with the recent federal court ruling and working to pay full November SNAP benefits during this shutdown as soon as today. My office has learned from the Division of Public Assistance that 50% of the benefits for Alaskans were distributed".
On November 10, 2025, Murkowski commemorated the founding anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps by sharing: "250 years ago, a few good men gathered in a Philadelphia tavern and the U.S. Marine Corps was born. From those proud beginnings to battlefields around the world, Marines have always stood ready to defend our nation and uphold their traditions of honor, courage, and commitment."
The senator's comments reflect ongoing Congressional debates over executive authority in foreign policy decisions involving Venezuela—a country subject to longstanding U.S. sanctions and political scrutiny—and underscore concerns about legislative oversight when it comes to military or economic interventions abroad.
Her remarks regarding SNAP benefits follow a period where government shutdowns have disrupted social programs across states like Alaska; federal courts have sometimes intervened to ensure continued access for recipients during these lapses in government funding.
Murkowski's acknowledgment of the Marine Corps' history aligns with annual observances nationwide recognizing its establishment in 1775 and its role in American military tradition.
