Senator Lisa Murkowski has addressed recent developments concerning the government shutdown and its effects on federal employees, transportation services, and emergency response efforts in Alaska.
On October 8, 2025, Murkowski commented on the impact of the government shutdown on federal workers. She stated, "The government shutdown was not caused by individual federal employees, and they should not be forced to suffer the consequences. Congress has clearly stipulated that all federal employees – whether furloughed or excepted – will receive back pay following a shutdown, and this one".
Later that day, she announced new funding for a critical air service program. In her post from October 8, 2025, she wrote, "Today, I received word that the Department of Transportation secured $41 million in additional funding to sustain the Essential Air Service program during the government shutdown through the end of October. On October 9, 2025, Murkowski expressed appreciation for emergency management teams responding to severe weather in western Alaska.
