Senator Lisa Murkowski, who represents Alaska in the U.S. Senate, has used her social media platform to provide updates and commentary on recent events affecting the state, including natural disasters and community celebrations.
On October 13, 2025, Murkowski posted about her ongoing communication with state and federal agencies during emergency operations in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta: "For the last 48 hours, my team and I have been in close communication with the Alaska National Guard, Alaska Air National Guard, and U.S. Coast Guard as they conduct search and rescue operations following the devastating flooding across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. The Coast Guard".
Later that day, she addressed the impact of the disaster on Western Alaska communities: "It’s heartbreaking to see the images from KYUK, KOTZ, KNOM, and across social media showing the devastation in Western Alaska: homes swept away, families displaced, and communities grappling with unimaginable loss. I cannot praise enough the heroism of the Alaska National Guard," (October 13, 2025).
On October 14, 2025, Murkowski shared her experience attending a cultural event: "I was honored to join in celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day at the 42nd annual Elders & Youth Conference, a beautiful tradition that bridges the energy of our youth with the wisdom of our elders. Seeing the strength and resilience of Alaska’s people was especially meaningful https://t.co/NkLhYkkpNO".
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is a region in Western Alaska that is vulnerable to severe flooding due to its low-lying geography and proximity to major rivers. In recent years, climate change has contributed to more frequent and intense weather events in Alaska, impacting rural communities and prompting coordinated responses from state and federal agencies.
Senator Murkowski has served as a key advocate for disaster relief and support for Indigenous communities in Alaska.
