Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has backed a stopgap measure that extends the federal government funding deadline to March 14, 2025. This action prevents a potential government shutdown and allocates disaster recovery funds nationwide. The package received bipartisan support in Congress and includes $300 million for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s fishery disaster assistance accounts, an initiative strongly advocated by Senator Murkowski.

"There is never, ever a time when a government shutdown is a good thing for Americans or Alaskans. I’m relieved that cooler heads prevailed and a needless shutdown was avoided," stated Senator Murkowski. She emphasized the importance of securing critical provisions for Alaskans, highlighting the $300 million designated to replenish fisheries disaster accounts, which aims to assist fishermen in resuming their activities.
