Unforeseen Weather Conditions

Update

it’s back-to-school tomorrow | Anchorage School District

Good evening.

Barring any unforeseen weather conditions in the next 12 hours, it’s back-to-school tomorrow as best we can given these unprecedented back-to-back snow storms. It’s going to take patience and planning as a community to make it happen. It’s why we are reaching out tonight to help with tomorrow’s preparation.

Our partners at the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) and State of Alaska (SOA) are making snow removal progress. We know there are more streets that need plowed and sidewalks shoveled. Please assess the situation for your family. This is about parent choice. Excused absences will be granted for students if families deem it necessary not to send them to school tomorrow. We understand. As always, families are to coordinate directly with their assigned school.

For those who are able to safely return, here’s what you need to know right now: Crews will clean off our buses and install chains on tires this evening Bus pick-up times tomorrow morning may be delayed due to buses driving slower with chains and the road conditions. The same applies for drop-off times after school. Carpool if possible. Schools will be prepared for late arrivals. Review all safety precautions and safety tips with your students tonight. Here are a few safety tip links to help everyone arrive safely tomorrow:

Any changes to after-school and facility rentals activities will be made by Noon tomorrow. If there are no changes, plan on those activities.

Our operations team will continue to clean our parking lots and sidewalks. They will also continue to assess road conditions between now and early tomorrow morning. If anything changes, we will let you know. If not, we will see you tomorrow!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through the aftermath of this record snowfall. We will get through this together.

Be safe.
