Appropriations Requests

Good morning, this is great news to start the day with.

Earlier this year, Senator Murkowski sent out a request asking organizations to submit appropriations requests to her office. Out of the 5 that the City of Seldovia put forth, two were selected by the Senator as high priorities: Bloch Street Sewer Line Replacement ($736,000) and Replacement of the Lower Section of the Raw Water Transmission Line ($414,000).

Guess what? The Appropriations Subcommittees chose to move these 2 projects forward! Per the Senator's office, "This is not a guarantee that you will receive funding. However, it is another significant step in the process. The projects now move forward for consideration by the full Senate. The projects need to be included in a full year spending bill at the end of the year to receive final approval...this is a good indication that you will receive funding and we want to share our congratulations with you."

Per a press release issued by the Senator, "The Congressionally Directed Spending process restores Alaskans’ ability to have a voice in federal budget decisions by helping to identify and address needs in the state. Without this process, many of these dollars would flow to other states based on decisions made at federal departments and agencies."

The list of over 130 local projects prioritized by the Senator can be viewed here:

You will see Seldovia Village Tribe also received support to expand their Homer Health Center ($633,000). Congrats SVT!

Thank you Senator Lisa Murkowski for prioritizing Seldovia specific projects! We are hopeful your efforts and collaboration with Congressional and Alaskan Leadership will prove successful in supporting these essential water and wastewater improvements.
