Communications Tower Update Provided to the City of Seldovia- Line of Sight Delay
The City of Seldovia spoke with a representative from Vertical Bridge on May 6, 2022 pertaining to an update on the status of the newly installed communications tower in Seldovia.
Per that discussion the City of Seldovia was informed that there is a line-of-sight delay for service connectivity to the community. A line of sight is needed from the installed microwave dish to a microwave dish across the Kachemak Bay. While simulations were performed to test line of sight there was an unanticipated hurdle with trees and ground elevations. Verizon is still working to find a clear path for line of sight, all solutions are being looked at, and Vertical Bridge is confident that one will be found.
Examples of solutions being looked at are finding a line of sight in another direction or extending the height of the tower. An ETA is not currently available for when service from the new communication tower and Verizon will become available.
Updates will be provided to the community as received by the City of Seldovia.
