Sen. Dan Sullivan, U.S. Senator representing Alaska, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and developments related to the Alaska LNG project.
On October 31, 2025, Sen. Sullivan posted about the impact of the government shutdown on Alaskans, stating: "Another example of why this shutdown needs to end. Thousands of Alaskans depend on these benefits to put food on the table. Democrats need to vote to open the government. Now."
Later that day, he addressed progress in Alaska's energy sector, writing: "Many of our Asian allies and partners have signed letters of intent for Alaska LNG. This project is moving forward, and the Trump administration has had a lot to do with that." The Alaska LNG project is a proposed pipeline and export terminal intended to transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to international markets.
On November 1, 2025, Sen. Sullivan returned to the topic of the shutdown, comparing legislative actions under two administrations: "Under Biden, the Senate voted 13 times to keep the government open with short-term continuing resolutions. Contrast that with the 13 times now Senate Democrats have voted to shut down the government under Trump. The Schumer shutdown is hurting people, and it needs to end."
The current government shutdown has affected various federal programs in Alaska, disrupting services such as food assistance for low-income families and causing uncertainty for state residents who rely on federal support.
The Alaska LNG project referenced by Sen. Sullivan is one of several large-scale energy initiatives designed to expand American natural gas exports while fostering economic ties with Asian markets.
