Senator Dan Sullivan has used his social media platform to criticize Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer over the recent government shutdown, attributing responsibility to Schumer and calling for an end to what he describes as political maneuvering.

On October 2, 2025, Sullivan stated, "The GOP is united & ready to pass a clean, bipartisan CR—just like we did 13x under Biden. But Chuck Schumer is putting his own interests ahead of the country. This is the Schumer Shutdown. He owns it & could have prevented it."

The following day, October 3, Sullivan posted about a radio appearance: "Thanks to Amy Demboski and 650 KENI for having me on the show to discuss the Schumer Shutdown and why it was 100% avoidable."

Later on October 3, Sullivan referenced previous remarks by Senator Schumer: "Senator Schumer previously said that a minority party blocking a clean, bipartisan CR to get bigger demands is 'political idiocy.' It's time for my Democratic colleagues to put an end to Sen. Schumer’s political idiocy and reopen the government."

A continuing resolution (CR) is a type of appropriations legislation used by Congress to fund government agencies temporarily when formal appropriations have not been signed into law. Disagreements over such resolutions can lead to partial or full government shutdowns if funding lapses. The current dispute follows several previous occasions in which short-term funding measures were passed under President Biden's administration.
