Sen. Dan Sullivan, U.S. Senator representing Alaska, recently used his Twitter account to address both aviation safety investments in Alaska and repeated Russian military activity near the state.

On August 25, 2025, Sen. Sullivan expressed gratitude for recent aviation safety investments and the involvement of federal officials in these efforts: "Thanks to Sec. Duffy for joining me in AK to highlight HUGE OBBB aviation safety investments: $80M for new AK weather tech, $40M to expand the FAA AK Safety Initiative, and $12.5B for nationwide upgrades. Big thanks to @POTUS and @SecDuffy for partnering with AK to keep our skies".

Later that day, he highlighted ongoing national security concerns related to Russian military activity: "The strategic importance of Alaska has been demonstrated time and time again this summer. Just in the last few days, there have been two Russian incursions into our airspace, which our Alaska-based military, once again, professionally intercepted and sent packing back to Russia."

On August 27, 2025, Sen. Sullivan reported further incidents involving Russian aircraft near Alaska: "For the 5th time this week, our military intercepted a Russian surveillance aircraft in Alaska’s ADIZ. Alaska is on the frontlines: We must strengthen our military with Alaska as the cornerstone. From the Golden Dome missile defense system and reopening Naval Base Adak to".

Alaska's geographic location makes it strategically important for U.S. national defense as it is one of the closest U.S. territories to Russia and regularly sees heightened military activity from foreign nations in its Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). Investments in aviation safety infrastructure are intended both to protect civilian air traffic and support military operations given these recurring incursions.
