Senator Lisa Murkowski, who represents Alaska in the U.S. Senate, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on July 16 and 17, 2025. Her posts focused on legislative responsibilities, federal funding for education, and emergency response to a recent earthquake in Alaska.

On July 16, Murkowski stated: "We are lawmakers. Our responsibility is to legislate, not to shrug our shoulders and take direction from the White House." She emphasized the role of Congress as an independent legislative body rather than one that merely follows executive branch directives.

Later that day, she commented on a decision related to educational funding: "The decision to withhold this funding is directly contrary to President Trump’s goal of returning K-12 education to the states. This funding goes directly to states and local school districts, where local leaders decide how this funding is spent, because as we know, local". In this tweet, Murkowski criticized the withholding of funds intended for state and local educational authorities.

On July 17, Murkowski provided information about a natural disaster affecting her state: "A few hours ago, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the Alaska Peninsula, just south of Sand Point. Local residents and summer visitors alike were able to evacuate thanks to federal tsunami advisories relayed through local public broadcasting stations. That’s the real world." She credited timely federal tsunami warnings delivered via public broadcasting for enabling effective evacuations during the earthquake event.

Senator Murkowski has long advocated for increased autonomy for states in education policy and has supported strong emergency preparedness infrastructure in Alaska. The region frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
