U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska has announced the unanimous passage of a Senate resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Korean War's outbreak. As a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee and co-chair of the U.S. Senate Korea Caucus, Sullivan emphasized the importance of remembering this conflict and its lessons on military readiness.
“On the 75th anniversary of the Korean War—the ‘Noble War,’ we should all remember the brave Americans who fought, died and sacrificed to keep another country free, the Republic of Korea, one of our strongest allies today,” said Sen. Sullivan. He highlighted that "Commemorating the Korean War is also important for recognizing the lessons we learned that are still relevant today."
The resolution marks June 25, 2025, as a significant date in history when North Korea invaded South Korea, prompting a response from United Nations forces led by over 1.7 million American troops. The conflict resulted in more than 103,000 American casualties and over 36,000 deaths.
Sullivan noted that "the defense of the Republic of Korea by United States and allied forces allowed for the development of modern South Korea into a robust market economy" and emphasized its role as a strong ally to the United States.
The resolution underscores several key points: honoring those who served in defense against communist forces; recognizing South Korea as an essential ally; acknowledging how this war shaped U.S. defense policy; reaffirming commitments to maintaining military strength; urging continued investment in military readiness; and encouraging Americans to remember it not as a "Forgotten War," but as one that preserved freedom for millions.
