U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Brian Schatz are set to lead a hearing focused on public health and social services for Native Americans. The event, scheduled for May 14 at 3:30 p.m. ET, will be held before the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs in Room 628 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

The hearing is titled “Delivering Essential Public Health and Social Services to Native Americans – Examining Federal Programs serving Native Americans across the Operating Divisions at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.” It aims to review how federal programs under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) serve American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.

Senators Murkowski and Schatz have expressed concerns regarding recent changes announced by HHS as part of President Trump’s Executive Order on government efficiency. In a letter to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of HHS, they addressed these concerns related to restructuring within the department.

Live video coverage of the hearing will be available online for those interested in following the proceedings.
