The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution led by Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) and Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), recognizing November 2024 as National Native American Heritage Month. This resolution aims to honor the diverse cultures, achievements, and contributions of American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian peoples.
"In November, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month to recognize American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian peoples and their diverse cultures, achievements, and contributions to the United States," stated Chairman Schatz. He expressed his honor in leading this year's Senate resolution alongside Vice Chairman Murkowski.
Vice Chairman Murkowski emphasized the importance of this month in fostering a deeper understanding of Indigenous traditions and values: "Celebrating November as Native American Heritage Month encourages a deeper understanding of the traditions, languages, cultures, and ways of life in Indigenous communities across the United States."
