Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, expressed her appreciation for the recent announcement of more than $30.4 million allocated for 42 climate resilience projects in tribal communities across Alaska. The funding for these projects was provided through various sources including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Inflation Reduction Act, and the annual appropriations process.

"The selection of more than 40 climate resilience projects across tribal communities in Alaska is a significant step forward in addressing the growing threats and impacts of climate change," stated Vice Chairman Murkowski. She emphasized the importance of incorporating Indigenous knowledge and prioritizing community-driven initiatives to ensure that the resources effectively meet the unique needs of each Tribe.

The awards were distributed under the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Tribal Climate Resilience Annual Awards Program, with Alaska receiving approximately one-quarter of the total $120 million awarded. Senator Murkowski, as one of the lead negotiators and authors of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, played a pivotal role in authorizing and providing the funding for these vital projects.

The recipients of the awards in Alaska are set to benefit from these investments in climate resilience. More information on the specific projects and their impact can be found on the official announcement.

This substantial funding injection into climate projects in Alaska tribal communities underscores the ongoing efforts to address climate change and strengthen resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

Senator Murkowski's proactive involvement in securing this funding highlights her commitment to supporting tribal communities in Alaska and advancing initiatives that enhance climate resilience in the region.
