For this #ASDShineBright we shine the spotlight on local business owner, Sylvester Joubert, of Midnight Sun Car and Van Rental, who made a $5,000 donation to Williwaw Elementary School on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

After hearing the news report of a break-in at the school that resulted in the loss of about 15-20 electronic devices, Midnight Sun Car and Van Rental pledged to replace the lost equipment.

The tablets were used by Williwaw students to participate in “Launch,” a project-based science curriculum.

Principal Likka McCauley said Joubert’s actions are an example of their school’s expectation to contribute to the good.

“It’s Important that especially when tough things happen, that we are part of the helpers, that we don’t just see the bad things that happen” McCauley said. “That’s a continual message we are trying to share with students- what you do to help? We can’t control the actions of what other people are doing be we can always find a way to support each other.”

Joubert said he and his wife both come from a free-hearted family. “We are fortunate enough to do this. After we heard about what happened on the television then we decided we were going to choose this school this Christmas to make a donation.”

Joubert’s advice to students? “I hope the kids listen to their parents, obey the teacher, and be quiet in school.”
