#ASDShineBright - Alaska Native Cultural Charter School fourth grade students studied Vincent Van Gogh's style of painting and painted their own version of the Starry Night, one of the most recognized pieces of art in the world.
ANCCS Art Specialist Sarah Hamacher said students first learned about the artist in third grade where they created beautiful watercolor sunflowers. Now, the fourth graders are learning how create their own art with the technique they learned in art class.
"We watched a video from the Van Gogh museum from the perspective of Van Gogh telling his own story," said Hamacher. "We learned to double-load our brush with two colors and create short, thick brush strokes in Van Gogh's style."
The students studied the piece by zooming in on the painting through the Google Arts and Culture website.
"This was such a fun lesson, and I can't wait for the students to finish their paintings!" said Hamacher.
