#ASDShineBright Orchestra student Han Keum of Northern Lights ABC School won the 10th Annual Anchorage Chamber Music Festival student competition against high school and college level participants. Keum, an eighth grader, played Chopin Revolutionary Etude on piano.
Northern Lights ABC Orchestra Director Katie Eakes said Keum started playing violin in sixth grade.
"He quickly became a leader in my orchestra, filling the role as Concert Master for my middle school orchestra as a seventh grader," said Eakes. "Han's accomplishments are amazing and he's humble about them."
With the support of Eakes and Keum's mother, Keum was recommended for the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival, a program founded by a Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School graduate designed to encourage students strive to reach a new level of artistic excellence.
"Han's mother is a pianist and his instructor and should be recognized also for her constant encouragement and support of Han's music education," said Eakes. "He's such an outstanding young man, I'm so happy to have him in my orchestra!"
Team ASD extends a huge congratulations! Keep shining bright
