Many Community Events to Occur in Seldovia this July Including the City of Seldovia’s 60th Anniversary Celebration as a First-Class City

For immediate release: June 22, 2022

The City of Seldovia - in partnership with Seldovia Village Tribe and Seldovia Chamber of Commerce - is inviting and encouraging Alaskans to choose Seldovia as the place to be for the 4th of July weekend. Events start on Thursday, June 30th and continue through the national holiday on Monday.  Per the Chamber’s website, “Seldovia Celebrates Small Town Independence Day in a Big Way!” Please come join in on our small town/big-hearted celebrations.

This year marks a big municipal milestone for the City of Seldovia. The City of Seldovia – first established in 1945 – became a first-class city in 1962. As part of the weekend’s festivities, Mayor Jeremiah Campbell will celebrate the City’s 60 years as a first-class city with the community during the “Key to the City” event, on July 3rd at 2:30pm, which will be hosted at the Seldovia Gateway Pavilion. U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski has confirmed attendance for the event and local, state, and federal dignitaries have been invited to attend.

Another special municipal event will be featured at the community’s Independence Day Parade. Executive Administrative Assistant Dianne Gruber spent the past few months tracking down photos of the Mayors of Seldovia from 1960 through 2022. The photos will be featured during the parade with some of Seldovia’s mayors joining in the parade itself. The Seldovia Chamber of Commerce has many activities planned for the day, including celebrating Diane Kaplan, CEO of Rasmuson Foundation, as Seldovia’s Honorary Old Crab.  See schedule attached.

Many other community events are scheduled to take place at this time. Just prior to the 4th of July, Seldovia Village Tribe will be hosting the Coming Home 2022 Reunion events from June 30th through the 4th of July weekend to celebrate Seldovia and welcome home many former residents and new guests. More details on Coming Home 2022 are attached.

For more information on Seldovia Chamber of Commerce events, please visit seldoviachamber.org or Seldovia, Alaska.

On behalf of the residents of the Seldovia area, we hope you will join the celebrations in our beautiful community June 30 – July 4.
