The Seldovia Comprehensive Plan identifies, as part of our community's vision for 2013 through 2033, that residents will achieve greater food self sufficiency. On Monday, Seldovia City Council supported a local group doing just that.
From 2022 through 2026, the Seldovia Farmers Market will volunteer in beautification and parks/rec efforts at the City in exchange for using the Gateway Pavilion to host the farmers market. The market supports the vision of food security and economic stability for Seldovia and we are excited to see this local effort flourishing. Thank you Councilmembers Payton and Sweatt for your leadership on this initiative.
As an aside, Rosanna's Garden through the "Seldovia Can Grow" project supported by Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. will be providing fresh greens at no cost to Seldovia's senior meals programs. The produce itself has a story - students at Susan B. English have been learning about hydroponics and tending to the greens themselves!
