Seldovia, WE DID IT!
Today, the City Office received a letter from the State of Alaska letting us know the City has been approved for funding to make improvements to the Multipurpose Building. Grant total: $645,568.96.
Improvements will be made to prevent and respond to the coronavirus pandemic. You can expect improved ventilation and air flow, new windows, updated boiler/heating system, updated bathroom fixtures, new countertops in the Senior Meals kitchen, a shower for volunteer first responders, and more. Thank you for your support - it is an honor to be of service.

This past Friday, a major accomplishment and teambuilding exercise took place at the City.
With Council’s encouragement and approval, City staff submitted a proposed project entitled “Improvements to the City of Seldovia’s Multipurpose Building to Prevent and Respond to the Coronavirus Pandemic” for the State of Alaska Community Development Block Grant- Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) Program.
This two hundred plus page document (along with quadruplicate copies) had quite the journey to make it to its destination, beginning with an all staff review, copy, and tab party. Next was a city office send-off with the Chief of Police for a ten mile journey up Jakolof Bay Road to be handed off to Harbormaster Jandt-Pedersen for a 13 mile boat ride, with a final hand off to a mail carrier so that the application could make it to Fairbanks before the deadline this coming Friday.
Awarded projects will be announced in April, and the City of Seldovia has given its all to this project’s application process.
With CDBG-CV funding in hand, the City would make improvements to the Multipurpose Building’s ventilation system, sanitation, and structural integrity. This would take place through upgrades to the building’s windows, roof, temperature control/boiler system, plumbing fixtures, and more.
2022 marks the City’s 60th anniversary as a First-Class City. We are planning to join the Seldovia Village Tribe and Seldovia Chamber of Commerce in summer festivities that celebrate this municipal milestone. Renovating this vital community building -known to some as the ‘heart of Seldovia’- would be a symbol of Seldovia investing in its future in a manner that protects public health and safety from a virus that has proven its here to stay.
Wish us luck! We will keep you posted.
