Seldovia Marine Regional Transportation Network Infrastructure Planning Project

Construction

On February 14, 2022, Seldovia City Council passed a motion of support for the City's pursuit of the United States Department of Transportation's Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Discretionary Grant program regarding the Seldovia Small Boat Harbor and Jakolof Bay Dock - two essential components of the City's Marine Regional Transportation Network.

On April 14th, the City was able to successfully submit a planning grant application for the USDOT’s consideration. This project was a complete team effort and took many, many hours from City staff to complete.

Local, regional, and statewide letters of support for this project received so far (with more to come!) include letters from: Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senator Dan Sullivan, Senator Stevens, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Member Tupper, Seldovia Village Tribe President/CEO Collier, Alaska Dept. of Transportation and Public Facilities Chief of Planning, Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District (KPEDD) Executive Director Dillon, and City of Homer Port & Harbor Harbormaster Hawkins.

Additionally, support for this grant writing effort was provided by staff from the Alaska Dept. of Public Transportation, Senator Murkowski’s office, and Alaska Municipal League (they had two grant writers City staff got to consult with at no cost and they gave suggestions to strengthen the City’s application), in addition to local Seldovians Brentwood Higman and Erin Mckittrick who assisted the City with data and language for the grant concerning the climate change/environmental issues related to the project that the grant application requested information on.

If you would like to learn more (including reviewing the submitted grant application materials and letters of support) please visit this City webpage:

We will find out how we did by August 12, 2022. Thank you for the support and the opportunity to be of service to you.
