Anchorage School District issued the following announcement on March 31.
Students and staff with the Adult Community Transition program volunteered at Food Bank of Alaska today, the team labeled and packaged 840 cans of salmon.
Community-based instruction is a critical component of the ACT program. The students are introduced to a variety of activities where they have the opportunity to create community connections. The foundational life skills they learn during these experiences help promote a successful and fulfilling life after leaving the program.
“It’s important for students to see the food, learn where it comes from, and where it goes,” said Joyce Matthews, teacher assistant with the ACT program. “It’s also important because we are teaching them to give back to the community.”
